Emotional Therapeutic Counselling
Your Personal Journey and How Counselling May Help
At some point in our lives we all experience personal challenges, issues and setbacks. There are times we can feel stuck, unsettled and unhappy in our lives. For some this may present life long challenges or difficulties. For others life may bring unresolved issues that result in unhappiness, distress and hopelessness.
At such times, seeking support and strategies from a professional counsellor may be helpful.
Emotional Therapeutic Counselling seeks to help those who are suffering emotional turmoil in their lives. It can help with stress, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, parenting, communication and relationship issues, work and career issues, life transitions such as the birth of a new baby, separation or divorce, addiction, abuse, self-esteem difficulties and exploring gender identity and/or sexuality.
A key aspect of Emotional Therapeutic Counselling is the range of techniques used by the therapist to assist the client to both recognise and release painful feelings in a healthy manner, by focusing and working on emotions rather than the mind. The aim is to give one a greater self awareness and inner strength on which they can build upon, giving them the ability to cope with, explore and create an acceptance of whatever may confront them in life or remain from a past experience, and from that, develop and improve their life.
Therapy goes at the client’s pace and the number of sessions will vary according to a client’s needs.
About Maria
My name is Maria and I am a qualified Emotional Therapeutic Counsellor working in Exmouth, Devon. I have a Diploma in Emotional Therapeutic Counselling and I am a registered member of the Foundation of Emotional Therapeutic Counselling, which is accredited by the National Counselling Society.
After working as a specialist palliative care nurse in the NHS for many years I have observed how important it is for people to have a safe space to explore their emotions and circumstances when seeking guidance to aid finding what helps them. Along with life's challenges and difficulties can come opportunities for personal growth, understanding and healing. We all have the potential to grow and move forward at a pace that is unique to us.
Counselling can bring understanding to how we make sense of our world and assist bringing awareness and acceptance to support any desired changes. I support a compassionate, person-centred approach in order to construct a safe nurturing space that offers a foundation to gently explore your therapeutic journey from. Emotional Therapeutic Counselling promotes the core belief that healing can occur when we understand the feelings that shape our behaviour and responses. At the heart of how I practice is the belief that, we all do the best we can with the knowledge, understanding and resources we have at any given point in our lives. I approach therapy from an authentic perspective with warmth and kindness, respecting the courage it takes to reach out. I will support you to befriend your experiences rather than move away from them.
How Do I Work?
We can meet in the therapeutic space in my home or take a walk along the beach if walking therapy is preferred. Alternatively, online and over the phone sessions for those unable to meet in person are available.
I aim to create a confidential space and relationship that you feel supported and comfortable in, free from judgement where you can explore the causes of the pain, unhappiness or feelings that brought you to contact me. Together we can work to find strategies, tools and a self awareness that can assist you outside of our talking therapy sessions. Any and each subsequent session we will re-evaluate how our previous sessions have helped and adjust, refocus and continue to explore
